Quite moving…the video below features artists Pharrell and Mystikal ‘s “Shake it Fast” – ©2000 Zomba Recording LLC. And let’s face it, there is no denying that the track is HOT, the women are beautiful, the sexuality is real and it taps into a soul fire that comes with progress and creativity. However, at best, this work promises no more than a good time: an escape from the drudgery of life into a world of dancing and sex. Nuttin’ wrong wid it? Maybe not…

But pay closer attention to the imagery. We cannot ignore the two baby girls in the beginning, the next take of two very bored teenage girls who could easily have been the two baby girls growing up. And the next take showing three girls who could possibly include the first two as young women who have grown into beautiful, sexy pawns for the next “good time”.

Whatever the intent of the director, it is very clear that the purpose of the “young girls grown into beautiful young women” is to serve the sexual need and desire of the men in the video world. Listen to Mystikal rap, “A brother like me gon get to work before I know the girl.”… How’s that for programming the minds of young boys and girls?

I do my share of partying…so I am not judging. And this form of fun and exploration wouldn’t be all bad, except – for the economic growth of the record company, it rips the spirit out of the entire sensual act and profits more from elevating the suppressions brought on by the very opposite thinking (the video being taboo) in our own culture.

So the sexual release (which we all need) is in the listening to and eventual buying of the record, not in the actual act of sexual bliss with oneself or another person. After a while, these temporary satisfactions leave the soul starving for the real thing. And let’s face it, ain’t nothing like real thing.
